Featuring: Winner of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize - Lian

A group of virtuoso performers and composers who
perform mystical Persian music. Combining a unique
musical vision with dauntless dedication to experimentation,
they create a synthesis of mystical world music composed
of traditional and folk melodies and instruments.
Lian's main goal for this concert is to increase awareness
and recognition of Persian culture. The group features
Pirayeh Pourafar on Tar; Houman Pourmehdi on Tonbak,
Daf, and Ney; Mahshid Mirzadeh on Santur; vocalist
Soleyman Vaseghi.
Shirin Ebadi
She is the first Iranian Muslim woman who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003.
She is a lawyer and a human rights activist who served in 1970s as one of the first female judges in Iran.
Her courage for defending individuals and the groups is now known to the world.
She is known for promoting democratic solutions to serious problems in society, equality before the law, religious freedom and freedom of speech.
She now works as a lawyer and also teaches at the University of Tehran.
